Floor drain is the key interface between drainage pipe and indoor floor. Its structural design directly affects drainage efficiency, deodorization effect and service life. The following is the main structural components and functional analysis of floor drain:
1. Core structural composition Main body (base and cover plate)
Base: fixed to the ground, connected to the sewer pipe, usually with waterproof wing ring to ensure sealing. The material is mostly pure copper or stainless steel, and some special places (such as explosion-proof environment) require special materials. Cover plate: Covering above the base, divided into full grille (fast drainage in shower area), solid (beautiful and easy to clean in balcony/kitchen) and washing machine special (with round holes) and other types. Filter screen
Located under the cover plate, it is used to intercept hair, fiber and other debris to prevent pipe blockage. Some designs use concave or convex filters to enhance the interception effect.
Core (Inner Core)
The anti-odor core of the floor drain is divided into two categories:
Water seal type: A water seal layer is formed through a water trap (depth must be ≥50mm), and the principle of a communicating vessel is used to isolate odors, but it may dry up and become ineffective if there is no water for a long time.
Self-sealing type: Including magnetic suction, springs, silicone, etc., closed by gravity or magnetic force, and automatically opened when draining. The sealing is easily affected by impurities and needs to be cleaned regularly.
2. Special structural design
Linear floor drain assembly
It consists of a linear grille panel, a filter, an anti-odor component (V-shaped silicone or T-shaped metal), a bottom trough (temporary water storage) and a drain port. The drainage area is larger and suitable for modern decoration style.
Intelligent water replenishment floor drain
Add an intelligent water control device to regularly replenish the water in the water seal layer to avoid drying problems, and at the same time equip a one-way sealing assembly to prevent sewage overflow.
Water trap auxiliary structure
Some floor drains need to be equipped with external water traps (U-shaped pipes) to enhance the deodorization effect through double water seals, especially suitable for floor drains without water seals.
3. Structural performance correlation
Drainage speed: related to the water flow cross-sectional area (≥10mm net width) and the opening and closing angle of the core.
Deodorization effect: Water seal depth, self-sealing tightness and material durability are the key.
Easy to clean: The removable filter and core design simplify the maintenance process.
