A counter top basin — also called a vessel sink, above counter basin or table top basin — is a bathroom sink that sits on top of the vanity countertop rather than being recessed into or mounted beneath it. The basin rests fully above the counter surface, making it the most visible and decorative type of bathroom sink. 1. Match Basin Shape to Vanity Size
A round counter top basin works on a 600mm-wide vanity. A rectangular vessel sink needs at least 700mm of vanity width. For double-vanity setups, allow minimum 200mm between two basins. Always leave at least 50mm of counter space on each side of the basin for toiletries and visual breathing room.

Counter top basins require taller-than-standard faucets. A vessel faucet should rise well above the basin rim, and the spout must extend far enough to reach the basin center. Wall-mounted faucets must be positioned high enough to clear the basin rim.
