What Is a Pedestal Basin?

A pedestal basin is a ceramic basin supported by a hollow ceramic column that reaches the floor. The column does two jobs: it carries the weight of the basin, and it hides the supply pipes and waste pipe that would otherwise be visible on the wall. The result is a self-contained fixture that needs no cabinet, no legs and no exposed plumbing.

How It's Made

Pedestal basins are slip-cast in vitreous china, then fired at 1280°C so the body densifies and the glaze fuses into the surface. The basin and the pedestal column are cast as two matched pieces, checked for fit and surface quality, and packed as one set. Every unit is inspected for glaze defects and dimensional accuracy before packing.
