Stainless Steel Basin

A stainless steel basin — also called an SS basin, stainless bathroom sink, or metal wash basin — is a bathroom wash basin manufactured from SUS304 stainless steel rather than ceramic. It is not a converted kitchen sink. The gauge, profile, edge detailing and surface finish of a bathroom SS basin are engineered specifically for washroom use: thinner, lighter and more refined than industrial or kitchen-grade steel sinks. Stainless steel bathroom basins are inherently non-porous — the surface has zero microscopic holes for bacteria, mold or mineral deposits to colonize. This makes them one of the most hygienic basin options available, and the reason they are widely specified in hospitals, clinics, aged-care facilities and school bathrooms. They are also virtually unbreakable: a dropped tool or heavy object that would crack a ceramic basin will bounce off stainless steel. At roughly one-third the weight of an equivalent ceramic basin, SS basins are easier to ship, handle and install — a single installer can mount a wall hung stainless steel basin without assistance. All our stainless steel bathroom basins are manufactured from SUS304 — the food-grade, medical-grade austenitic stainless steel that contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This composition gives the basin three properties that lower-grade steels cannot match:

Corrosion Resistance. The chromium content forms a passive oxide layer on the steel surface — invisible to the eye but highly effective at blocking moisture, bathroom cleaning chemicals and humid air from reaching the underlying metal. SUS304 basins do not rust in normal bathroom conditions, even in coastal properties with elevated humidity.

Non-Porous Surface. Unlike cast iron or some lower-grade steels, SUS304 has a dense, uniform grain structure that leaves no microscopic pores for bacteria, mold or biofilm to anchor. This is the property that makes SUS304 basins suitable for healthcare and food-grade environments — and why they remain hygienic through years of daily use.

Strength at Low Weight. SUS304 basins achieve structural rigidity at thinner gauges than carbon steel. The result is a basin that feels solid and stable when mounted, but weighs approximately one-third of an equivalent ceramic basin — reducing shipping costs and making single-person installation feasible.

Each stainless steel basin is individually wrapped in protective film to guard against surface scratching, then packed with foam cushioning in a 5-ply export carton. Because SS basins are significantly lighter than ceramic equivalents, more units fit per pallet — improving container utilization and reducing per-unit freight cost.
